I think I said this a couple of times before but just to reiterate...
PICK UP YOUR SHIT AND RUN, DO NOT WALK, TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS H0W TO READ INSTRUCTIONS, WILL NOT SWITCH YOUR PARTS BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE FOR, AND RUIN THE F'N TRANSMISSION TO THE POINT WHERE YOU HAVE TO START REPLACIN PARTS INSTEAD OF JUST GETTIN IT CLEANED OUT AND REASSEMBLED.

did i read this right, that they didn't put in the parts you gave em because they didn't think you needed em????????????????

:agrue:

>>>did i read this right, that they didn't put in the parts you gave em because they didn't think you needed em????????????????

Yeah you read it correctly! i couldnt beleive my ears.

So much for trying to have faith in other people.....(add morgans words here)

feel free to flame me for letting them try again.... i surely deserve it.

So IF i ever get it back, i end up in one of 2 places

1 I still have a broken tranny
2 I have a weak tranny that i can expect to break.

they will be real pissed after 5 times, they will give you your money back (i geuss).
and you just have to start all over.

But i wish you luck, and ofcourse George-Blake Thanks for improvement, and i''am real sorry to read all this.

thats an interesting idea about lettin them fix it until they get sick of it and don't want to do it anymore and don't want to bother and give up thje bucks since they can't make it work. I'll be interested in seeing if that works.

very interesting idea indeed!

I do have the beater that i can just keep driving.

And this sinst costing me anything extra at this point.

The only expense is the keeping the aggravation of it all contained when i am at home :D

Other than that i do miss going to the track....it was my only night out! :D

monday will be real interesting to see if this stuff about the manual valve breaking is just bullshit or if they burned up the clutches on the test drive.

You won't find one anywhere that uses all that I sent you.
Bow Tie's most expensive doesn't use 5 pinion planetaries unless you pay extra. They don't use the reaction carrier shaft w/torrington either.
Raptor uses 5 pinion but only aftermarket and you won't get the beefed up pump with the hardened stator. But you can get the reaction carrier shaft.
My contact at GM was really nice. He was the one that let me in on the new process reaction carrier shaft. GM was using some new process on them to prevent the splines from shearing off as well as using the torrington. The material they were made out of changed. You could see a difference in the texture of the surface between the new ones and the "old" 4L65E carrier shafts.
That was a BRAND NEW shaft, only other things you would find it in was Hummers and Cadillac Escalades.
In case you don't realize it, your valvebody is most likely fucked.
This makes perfect sense why all your TCs were coming up damaged. My bet is that they are using the bellhousing bolts to pull the transmission up to the engine. It ruins the pump which will damage the TC.

That sprag with integral sun gear has only been out a few months for repair/replacement for dealerships.
I'll be real surprised if you even get your trans back. My bet is that they will get one at a junk yard, throw it in and send you on your way.
At least we know who they are now.

Hindsite 20/20 I should've just had you shipped your trans to me.
Shops usually do NOT disassemble it down to the level yours had to be to upgrade it. This leaves them in a position they can't put it back together correctly. Many shops are clutch swappers. They don't even disassemble the pump. They should've seen some of those parts before if they had done ANY 4L60E's. I've got another hunch that says they put in the bronze thrust washer AND the torrington bearing and fucked up your sun shell. That's why they took it out.

I don't want to see anyone else go through this. I'll only do the basics in the GP. 5 pinion planetaries, new sprag, clutches, gaskets. Pump for the TD guys. What a disaster.
If it were my truck, I wouldn't leave it there. Eventually it is gonna get damaged externally. Or they are gonna start losing your parts(support brace that goes from the Transfer case to the bellhousing, etc).

Sorry I got short with you. It's not your fault. You trusted them like anyone else would have.
I don't know what to say. I'm glad I didn't talk to them. I'd have ended up hurting more than helping by they way this sounds. Not only could they not do the upgrade, they can't even just reassemble it.

Is there any way you can get them to pay you for the parts they damaged? Saying, "you don't need it" doesn't give them the right to damage parts. BBB can't do anything?

one thing i dont understand here.
Why does everyone keep talking about tc's getting damaged?

The 911 went in when i put the motor in.

It had been filled prior.

this got removed and my old B&M 2400 from the original motor went in.

A new B&M 2800 went in on the 1st build of this nightmare trans.

it got toasted and incorrectly fixed.

Now i have a hughes Tc that i have no reason to beleive is messed up.

I just ordered a 700r4 manual from summit.

At this point i might as well ship it to you, pay you to put together, and pay to ship it back here.

Let me know if you want to get paid for doing this stuff?

What the heck you might as well.

Tranny shops want to do everything their way. One dissasembled my friend's trans for inspection and they wanted to rebuild it. He took it out of there so I could put a Hartman kit in it. They loaded up "all" the trans parts in the back, he shipped the Ty to my house. They were missing a few little parts, stuff like the steel drum, the output shaft, half the pump, and a couple other small things. I had to go back there 3 times to get all the parts they forgot. Who knows where the original ones went. Luckily they didn't lose the damn valve body!

Anyway, the moral is that the only way you can get it built how you want is to build it yourself, or have somebody you really trust do it. If you get the right tools, it's just a big puzzle to put together nothing too complicated about it. I followed all of the instructions exactly, and it works bitchin'. It's gone 12.1 so far and that's in a Typhoon.

I'm game.
Gather up "all" the parts like what Wes experienced.
Figure out how you want to do it.
I'll videotape some stuff and take pictures of assemblies I find messed up and parts that are damaged. Then put it together again. As hard as it may be to believe, shops will be hard pressed to take a transmission if they heard the history of this. It's just gonna take some time.
The reason we thought the TC's were messing up was because of the stats you gave. Gave the impression your 2400 stall bit the dust too.
I just hope they didn't start swapping stuff from OTHER trannies into yours. The low reverse clutch "plate" isn't interchangeable unless other parts go with it. We'll see.
This is so messed up.
Let me know. See what your budget has in mind. It may sound "cool" to say money is no object but in reality, we only want to spend so much. If you find it is too much to ship it, just get another tranny and hang onto yours.
The MAIN thing I'm worried about is how bad they screwed up the valvebody. The rest of it is easy swap. Well.....for guys like Wes, David and I anyway.
If you get it back and it runs. Try it out. What the hell, at least drive it a little.
If you send it to me, I'll change out all the valve body bolts and stuff. Those things can only be torqued so many times and they will start to break off. Get yourself new bellhousing bolts as well if you pull it again.

hey ed

that sound like a plan to me and that's what I would do if I were you. tell em you don't have any more money to spend on it and you are just gonna park it for a while in the garage. I would be real interested knowing what this shop charges you to screw this one up.

good luck. and remember if you need a halfway place call me

I would say theres only a 1% chance what i get back could last 6 months of daily driver and Tuesday night racing.
As for cost being no object, dont thinki really said it like that. But it costs what it is to be fixed. Cant do much about that.
I might have a unique idea to get it to george.

I know mike renz lives in state college pa and he comes here once a month to visit clients. If i can get mike to drop it off at wes’s house or meet someplace and then get wes to meet george with it.... and so on. IF you guys can do this i can probably avoid 500 (guessing) in shipping charges both ways. Kind of like a bucket brigade with a fire.

Since i want to race this i think just having 2 transmisions makes sense anyway. If has to be only a couple hours to pull out and a couple hours to reinstall. I have a drive on lift. MY vendor has tranny jacks in stock for $100. Has to be a be a piece of cake to swap a tranny vz a motor (which ive allready done).

MY options on a spare tranny are.
Full build from
1 Hughes: 1600-2500 (depending on build extent in their pricelist)
2 Tci 1200 (from my vendor – keystone)
3 Bowtie overdrives 1600
4 Morgan wants 2k (if it came down to something less than half that)
5 Mike lee 2k+
6 You guys probably have other ideas for a 2nd unit
7 Buy a junkyard spare to blow and then rebuild 300-500?
8 i can get a jasper rebuilt at cost to blow and rebuild?

One thing about buying a race unit, it would have been on a dyno so it would be allready tested and know to actually work. But the drawback is shiping back and forth if it doesnt. Ultimately i will need to learn how to do this myself, I have allready ordered a manual. No problem on buying whatever tools i dont have (i have 2 rollarounds, 2 hangons, 2 top and 1 middle box now) so if i need a box for tranny tools ......

So comments ideas and further suggestions?

Morgan You want to deal on that tranny? I can trade you a motor for it? Add some cash?

I have to wonder how the owner of this shop is starting to feel about all this. He has to be amazed i havent flipped...me flipping wouldnt do anything anyway.

ed

fwiw I asked harry, and a few others in the business i know locally here that race and have had sy's or tys in the past, who to use and they all have no one they can really recommend that does a lot of 700r4 race work! surprising!

some suggestions

don't buy a junker case. they do break and when that happens you will lose your transmission.

you can't build it too well and too strong if you plan to race it. whatever you don't spend building it today you will spend tomorrow and you will lose money. kind of like that fram filter commercial

the awd puts mort strain on these 700's than 2 wheel drives, so when people tell you that the tran will hold up to 600 or 700 horses it don't mean shit. we have more torque and they don't know about awd. ask em it will hold up to a 1000.

I speak from personal experience on both of these topics.

AND...if you can install a tran on a syclone by yourself in 2 hours... :-?

Ed, I sent you an e-mail back before I read this actually.

Ill have to ponder the trade/cash situation. There are ways to get the cost of my trans down for you, but im not sure how much, we'll have to discuss them on the phone.

The motor might be an option, but a motor w/o intakes is not worth much to me, especially with 100K+ on it, but Ill ponder it like I said. Ill do everything I can to help ya out. But just like you, I cant loose too much money on this either.

Peace man, ill talk to ya on the phone during the week.

How much time do you figure it would be.

I figure the whole thing is probably 2.5 hours out and 2.5 hours in.

Infact with a lift and tranny jack the only difficult thing is the dreaded 2 top bolts. I Just dont see much dificulty other than those 2 top bolts. even then just a matter of the right combination of extensions and socket.

fwiw i took my motor out and put the new one in by myself.
