New reman computer problem

Need some help.

I just bought a remanufactured ecm (received in mail yesterday) through gmpartsdirect part #16198263 and I think it is bad. I install it and turn the key to ON truck OFF and the CEL starts flashing in no particular sequence then disappears. I try to put my scanner on but it comes up no communication to aldl. Start the truck and it's running in limp mode. Finally get a code and it's 42. New ICM btw. So I put my friends computer back in and the truck runs fine.

Am I forgetting to do something to the ecm before installing it? Thank you.

Re: New reman computer problem

Yes, I disconnected the battery before I installed the new ecm but I did not disconnect the battery before putting my friends ecm back in.

I did remove the ecmb fuse for a couple of minutes after installing both ecm's prior to start up.

Re: New reman computer problem

No, I did not try the new ecm in my friends truck.

The box it was shipped in and the new ecm is stamped with the same part number. (16198263)

My friend also mentioned he got his through Autozone as well.

I made sure the Ultimate chip was seated correctly more than once. Trying and retrying to rule out the possibility that the chip wasn't seated properly.

So, I guess the new ecm was suppose to just be connected with no flashing or anything and I guess I just received a bad unit. I wanted to check with you gents first before I contact them about it. I'm probably going to get stuck with a bad unit.

Thanks for your help.

Re: New reman computer problem

I put my stock chip in flipped around on the piggy back one time. It run but not to good.

Trying the new ECM in your friends truck is a great idea.

Re: New reman computer problem

I have a reman unit from gmpartsdirect.com that a got a few years back. My truck runs fine with it but it runs differently than with my OEM ECM. Doesn't make any sense but with the reman it idles lower. Kinda of weird and I've always wondered why.

Re: New reman computer problem

Delco Electronics sticker>service number>16198263

at the bottom of that same sticker reads>label number 16087373.

On the side of the ecm is a barcode sticker w/ ag57938.

I don't see any 7749 on the ecm nor on the packaging.

Re: New reman computer problem

7749 was the old ECM numbers. Not sure that number will be on the reman units. I'll have to take a look at mine and see. I know its on the OEM unit.

Interesting, I've been through several ECM's and this is the first I have heard of this. Even at AZ they always refer to it as the 7749. 7749 is always on the remans I purchase.

Re: New reman computer problem

I forgot to mention that there is a pin missing on the ecm prom connector. My friends ecm has the pin but the new one does not. May not mean anything but I noticed it before I even connected it.

I don't have it in front of me now but from memory I believe it was the bottom left pin. (with ecm standing-wire harness towards the bottom and the removable lid towards the top)

I'll verify when I get home.
