new to the typhoon family.. , pics inside

ey guys.. ive always wanted a typhoon ever since they came out, finally got one a couple months ago.. been doin quite a bit of work to it. ive also had a couple threads about it on here already bout issues ive had with the motor build etc.. just recently found out thanks to powercat that its joe dumars old truck.. and the history behind it.. i started off just puttin new head gaskets on it cuz they were bad when i bought the truck.. ended up having the heads gone thru.. thru on a cometic gasket set..got it back together.. whiel doing all this, i found out the motor was already semi built(pistons ,rods, .30 over, cam, roller rockers, push rods), so thats a plus, kinda.... lol,
got it running.. ended up finding out i had a knock.. now the motor is back out of the truck and tore down.. ended up having quite a few issues in the bottom end.. previous builder didnt put correct size bearings in it,rod caps werent even tight, along with the main studs as well werent torqued right or even tight for that matter.. now the block is off at the machine shopgettin cleaned up, magnafulxed, decked etc.. cam bearings were also bad.. so thats getting fixed as well.. per the advice of forum members i pulled the pistons to replace the rings as well.. which was prolly a good idea since everything else so far wasnt done correctly..

so far i have had the heads gone thru, new valve seals, cometics head gasket set, new crank, bearings, cam bearings, cam is getting cleaned up, luckily that didnt get to damaged that it wasnt savable..specially since it wasnt a stock one.. block is getting the once over.. bought new ignition stuff, coil, cap/rotor, plugs, wires, new waste gate ( had a tial 35mm when i got the truck, now has a 40mm hks racegate.. new hoses.. all the necessities.. new tie rods( they were pretty BAD), new idler arm, pitman arm, u-joints, new steel braided oil feed and 8an return line and some other little things..had it 2 months, and had the motor apart 2 times now...

heres some pics of how its been goin and where its at now, ill keep the pics updated as i have time to work on it..

when i first got back from ohio with it and started working on the heads/gaskets..

Store that crank standing on its end....not good to sit that way...

Good luck with getting her back together again!

Very clean! It sucks that you had to tear it all apart again but I'm sure it will be better than ever. Keep us updated!

I agree. I also like how you used the EGR spot for the coil mount. Pretty cool.

thanks.. it was blocked off already when i got the truck and they just had some ghetto a$$ thing hangin fromthe firewall, just like the map sensor is figured it'd be a good spot, then you dont have to look at the egr block off plate either..

I'm a big fan of those exact wheels on a black Typhoon. Very nice:tup:

Good luck with all of the work. Seems like you are doing a great job so far...

I feel your pain having to tear it apart right after you get it together. Those main bearings are bad, don't feel to bad mine where 2 or 3 times worse easy.

What being done to the Impala in the background?

that might be the joe dumars that played on the detroit pistons..

if it can be verified that this was his truck, you have one of the many typhoons owned by a professional athlete.

on a scale of 1-10.. how good are these pistons i have.. i need new rings.. but if these pistons are junk ima just buy a new set of pistons and rings..i found out they are speed pro.. top of the piston says h824cp .030 , and 07507-02-c...... ive never heard of em

There is another member that is doing a build with the exact one. i'd run em, but no personal feedback here. I have never heard anything bad about them.

not stock
Re: new to the typhoon family.. , pics inside

lots of people have used those trw pistons. They're on the lower end of the forged piston spectrum...but still forged and way better than stock.
