if all the rings are still in good shape.. they havent had much run time on em either.. machine shop said they looked new.. do you guys think id be ok reusing these rings.. or you think they wont seat right?

If you have any dought.....like you said, you don't want to do it again. Espacailly soon, thats how people get burnt on these trucks and end up selling and taking a huge hit. I try to do it once and not worry about it again, that don't always work out though.....:roll:

The machine shop are the guys you should be asking - if they look new then the chances are that the rings are ok and haven't seated or worn into a different configuration so they'll be fine.

Even brand new rings can seat wrong if they are installed wrong or the run-in has some odd features. Check with the shop - you haven't shown any pictures or anything else of them so we haven't got much to go on.

Are the pistons new and the rings look new? How much are new rings?

I'd take a chance on it from what you're saying - they're just covering their asses I am sure but it sounds like they're ok.

Otherwise take the hit and get new ones. I'm no expert on this, the machine shop are.

Pics of the rings - the tips and them laying flat on a surface. Any warping? Clearance issues?

Rings seat with the bore. If they were sealed before and you are putting them back in the same bore you are probably ok, assuming they were fine prior to coming apart.

If you go with new rings, your best to put a fresh hone job on the bore to help them seal.

Just my 2 cents and experience.

the block jsut got honed because it had some rust in a couple of the cylinders from the bad headgasket..ima just buy some new ones.. lol..thanks guys

been a while since i updated the thread.. ive got the block back.. new rings and started getting it back together.. but ran into some more issues.. i guess it was good taht the bearings were bad and i had to pull the motor and rebuild it.. looks like someone was over boosting .. so now i had to order 2 new pistons... it never stops.. lol

but i got the 4 that were still good.. ringed and installed.. now itll be sittin for another week until those last 2 pistons arrive..

ended up having to buy a WHOLE set since they decided after i ordered them that they couldnt sell them individually anymore.. so im gona take the 4 ive already put it back out and put the whole new set in.. they should be here by friday .......................hopefully

a headgasket fix has turned into a 2 month rebuild.. :roll:
