I don't think they are kidding about the transmission.
You'll see.
3-4 clutches will be the first thing to go as soon as you start getting into it on a regular basis. Maybe bust apart a rear planetary.....how bout tearing up your input sprag....yeah....they're kidding...
I'm with the other guy. Have someone that knows what they are doing build the trans to hold up to what you are gonna do with it.

Running great, I've only driven it around 1000 miles in the last 2 weeks (oops). But that includes the 650mile trip home.

Just itching to start modifying it. You know how it is.

Oh and I found out that my fiancee doesn't like accelerating quickly :screwy:

Re: ok help me spend my $3,000 limit for mods

joking aside... Allens truck has already got all the necessary mods needed to start going the route of serious bolts ons... i.e turbo, a2a, headers, etc., he just wants some direction on what can be done for budget.

The tranny was rebuilt and has a 9/11 converter with a cooler, so as it sits, hes ready to go.

Hes seen my POS Syclone with the PTE52 setup and RPM a2a, but true to SyTy ownership it doesnt run  .... or it does, but its not any sort of road worthy at the moment (Allen has made me felt really bad about neglecting it and I got off my ass and started working on it again)

Anyhow... Hes pretty familiar with the trucks now as he's been over at the house and has seen up close some of the typical stuff between the Bluebox, ChromeBoy, and 237.

i have recently purchased a 91 syclone it has 255 pump,9/11 coverter, ultimate chip, fpr, and a recent tune up,it runs pretty well for a stock truck but i want to run mid to low 12's all the time not just 12.99 but sold 12's.were should i spend my money?or should leave it alone and store it?my truck has 46,000 miles so it is not a super low milage truck.

If I had to do all over again... I would

1. Replace the stock heads (sorry forgot what the popular one's are) I used aluminum brodix my self. Smog/EGR issue possible depending on state you live in .

2. Comp Cam.. this is a cheap mod

3. Tunning.

Every one knows the stock turbo can get you into the low 12's if the engine can breath. Hence the Heads.

I forgot who it was but they did some awsome times (low 12's, high 11's?) with the stock turbo and new heads and tunning. Hell lift the hood and it still looks bone stock with those mods. Fools lots of people.

Ohh wouldn't hurt to put on a alky kit, I read LOTS of good stuff about them. Can't wait to try mine out! Hey Mike you listning? lol...jk

any of you guys by your turbo kits from rpm?that is what i have been looking at just cant deside what size turbo or if i should go for the pte kit or the rpm kit.one has internal waste gate and the other has external waste gate.

I got the rpm 60 series turbo kit with the internal minigate setup .I'm highly pleased with its looks and performance .

dean i will do the heads, intake and cam someday,i think you are wright about the kind of gains that can be had with bigger heads and intake, heck all the motor is really a big air pump,i know when i had my supercharged saleen it made a big difference when the heads got ported, almost 31 rwhp.i would love to find a secound motor to build, thanxs for your input

Some day? I thought you were spending 3g's for mods now. Is the 3grand for mods going to be now or in the future? If youre spending that kind of money I would think those mods would be your top performers and would be a now instead of later choice, especially if you got the money now.
Either way good luck with it.

Re: ok help me spend my $3,000 limit for mods

yea i am spending 3k now and later want to do a different motor,i just dont have the heart to break open the factory motor,i know that sounds stupid,i just dont know much about these trucks and would hate to get it all torn down and never get it back together, now if it was a mustang i wouldn't bat an eye about ripping the heads off i have done it a thousand times, but never have done any motor work to a gm,besides putting on a blower on a 98 ss s-10 pick up i had

So what is it you want to buy?
Bolt ons?
You don't want to put it in the trans...don't want to put it in the engine...
Do you want a stereo or something? j/k
Do some searching on here and find out what guys are doing for yourself. Only you know what your looking for.

Re: ok help me spend my $3,000 limit for mods

My order this far as been.....

1) COMPLETE upgrade / rebuild of everything in the motor to handle 3k in bolt on upgrades.

....and will continue in the order of....

2) COMPLETE rebuild of transmission and new TC to handle the power of 3k in upgrades that will be bolted to the now reliable motor.

3) COMPLETE rebuild of the rear diff (to 8.5) to reliably put the power of 3k in upgrades to the ground; also a Gilbert propshaft.

4) COMPLETE upgrade of the fuel system to properly feed the 3k in bolt on upgrades.

5) COMPLETE engine management system / gauges for tuning and to monitor what's going on before I flush the 3k in upgrades down the toilet.

After the 10+k spent getting the truck ready, then I'll use look to what I can spend 3k on for bolt-ons.

........but that's just me.

.
For heavens sake, Mid12s in a Sy isnt that hard! Look at what Dig and Phillip have
done with stock engines...

Dig
11.94@114- 100% stock motor, 20G, 9/11.

Phillip Long

10.93 @ 121.99, 6.94 1/8, 1.47 60' with stock original motor, factory ECU, Cold A/C

And Alky setups are good for street racing/boost, but as I understand it, the guy,
wants to race at a track. Just buy racing fuel <which ultimately is better anyway>.
I ran 5-back to back passes, in a completely stock Typhoon, running 12.5s/12.6s.
The only mods was 160 deg thermostat, 20 G,caltracs, IC Lines, Sherflo, blade
of death, lubeguard, ATR headers, Ultimate chip, 9/11, fpr, 255 pump and tranny cooler.

Come on....$3K and already tuned/modified with
255 pump,9/11 coverter,ultimate chip,fpr
.

Heck, pay for Dig`s airline ticket and pocket the difference in $$$$
and he`ll have you running 12.5s all day on a stock motor/setup.
Its been done, time and time again.

Just buy racing fuel <which ultimately is better anyway>.

I don't have all the details worked out and figured yet. Could be a few other variables but some recent testing we just did on the sy I have been tuning might have just shown race gas slowed us down over 110 octane.

Now maybe with new tune and race gas there might be advantage. But we were already able to run 25psi on pump gas and meth. Higher octane will require more timing to get to complete the burn at same time. Both have very similar BTU also. Starting to make me wonder if you have good boost and timing without knock on pump, if race gas will really help any.

nojimmy, hell you make it out like i dont have to spend that much to get the truck in the mid 12's,i would be more than willing to pay digs way down if it would get me pretty much the same results and save money, you just cant beat that.
