Can DM be run on one of these, or is there any other similar programs that can be used. I know at work we use a program to monitor Honda bikes/quads, which is pretty cool. Anyhting like this for a sy/ty?

Re: Palm Pilot

There website doesn't say anything about running from palm software yet so i'd have to say no

DataMaster software runs on the Windows 98, 2000 or XP operating systems and needs 800 x 600 minimum display resolution and one free serial port if data recording is used. It is recommended to have a 133 MHz or better Pentium-class system and at least 64 MB of RAM. DataMaster software requires 10 MB disk capacity for the first installation, and 3 MB for each additional version installe

Re: Palm Pilot

Maybe not on a Palm specifically, but I have to think that it would work on one of these smaller windows based PDA's....Like the Axiom from Dell, or that one from Compaq.

I've never heard of anyone doing it, but it sure would be nice to be able to log some runs on the PDA instead of the laptop!

Re: Palm Pilot

I saw a pic of a talon that was for sale around here and he had a PDA setup to log runs, which brought me to ask this.

Those guys have been doing it for years....substantially larger market though!

Re: Palm Pilot

Years ago, the DIY-ECM website had Bill Shaw's Palm app, "ALDL Data Logger," for the 7749 ECM. I don't think he tweaked it much and I don't know how well it works. The problem is finding a Palm-to-ALDL cable. I'm hoping Dan's cable (PPI Typhoon) will work with the serial sync cables available for most Palms.

Here are two screenshots:

Available options.

Can display/graph up to 5 data fields at once. Choices shown are knock retard, boost pres., throttle position, coolant temp. and time.

If anyone knows where to find Bill, I think this is a project that needs to be revived. I'll post up if/when I get it to work.

Re: Palm Pilot

I have a treo 650 palm that still runs palm os. the new 700 treo palm runs a windows os and would probably work. getting a cable to run between the two would be hard i would think. I dont have datamaster or know much about it but doesnt it run to a serial port?

Re: Palm Pilot

I don't think the 700w will work. Supposedly, the 700p (Palm OS) will be released at the end of this month/early June...but, that's overkill. IIRC, all you need is a Palm running OS 3.X (cheap).

Yes, Datamaster cable connects to a DB9 serial port, just like many Palm sync cables.

It would be nice if the software worked on a Windows CE operating system, which would make it compatible with most Pocket PC's/Mobile Devices (PDA's) out their.

V...any more info on this app?

< One year later > Sorry, I haven't been active in the forums for some time.

I connected the DM cable to my Palm Visor and Treo 700p, but the app wouldn't read the data stream. I haven't had much time to tinker with it.

If anyone wants to take on this project, I'll see if I can find the prc file.

Re: Palm Pilot

I'd be very interested in something that runs windows based, I have an axim brand new and would like something worthwhile to do with it.

They've got posted source...

Somebody just needs to port it to the SyTy datastream.
SyTy datastream definitions are available, too.

Good project for someone with C coding skills.

One piece of advice - patch the ECM code with the ALDL patch before doing any development with this... it'll save you a lot of hair-pulling.
