Replace or rebuild tranny?

Hello,

I found a piece of metal on the magnet and the Ty is shifting pretty hard from 1st to 2nd.

Is it better to buy a replacement, or have the original rebuilt?

If rebuilding the original is better, what parts will have to be bought to bring the tranny back to "like new"...any suggestions on a kit would be great.

If buying a completely rebuilt tranny is better, and ideas on good replacements?

I've got a budget of around $2,500, and the work must be done by a shop...so i figure that's $2,500 minus shop fee's.

I want to stay as stock as possible---nothing over the top...just more reliable, and beefier internals I guess.

Brad,

I'm really new to Ty/Sy, and working on major things like trannies, so bear with me...and I tried searching, but nothing came up with good answers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

Re: Replace or rebuild tranny?

Shifting hard is pretty "normal" for these trannies. If it isn't slipping on the 1-2 or 2-3 shift, re-adjust the TV cable and change the fluid. You're good to go.

I'd also check to make sure the TV valve moves freely in the valve body while you have the pan off.
