Jeff and I have been talking about throwing together a little tuning session (albeit very impromptu) for the group. There would be a roughly 30 minute intro to tuning where we would show how to physically connect the hardware, how to open a bin, edit data, upload a bin to AutoProm/Ostrich, and how to datalog. That would then be followed up with some one-on-one tuning help for people in need of some chip work on their truck.
Here's what we would expect of YOU:
1) - That you care about LEARNING how to tune your own truck. We'd like to teach people, not do free tuning jobs. So, if you attend the session, expect to learn.....not just to have a tuner fix your truck for you.
2) - That you have most of the "tuning tools". These include an AutoProm or Ostrich, a chip adapter to hook the AutoProm/Ostrich to your ECM, and whatever data monitoring system you prefer. I'm sure there will be an abundance of laptops floating around as well as cables, so we don't mind sharing that, but we're not gonna spend an hour in the parking lot hooking up a boost gauge and wideband.....you need to have those things done already.
3) - That you don't expect a perfectly tuned truck in one afternoon. This session is all about giving you the knowledge to tune while having someone there to answer questions and help you along. While it may seem that your truck is tuned when we finish, in reality, the tuning process is gonna take a while. If you're adamant about learning, you'll continue what you learned once the meet is over. That's what we'd like to see happen......you getting inspired to tune and then be able to pass along to someone else what we pass along to you.
An example of the session: A few of us tuners collaborate for 30 minutes explaining the basics of tuning and datalogging to the whole group. One of us will then hop in the truck with you and begin a one-on-one session of helping you tune your truck. You'll handle the laptop and do the majority of the work while we walk you through it. We hit the road and begin to iron out some of the tuning and a question comes up....we're right there to help answer it. When we're done, you've gotten your feet wet tuning, your truck is a little closer to being well-tuned, and you've gotten some questions answered without having to go back inside and make a post here about what's stumping you.
So......How many of you would be interested in attending something like this?
The reason I ask is that we need a rough head count so we know how many tuners to disperse and how long we should spend on each one-on-one session.
