I think you should stay away from cutting around the turbos.

Keep the inner fenders under the turbos awith some clearance.

That way the inner fenders won't get so hot and it will give you clearence to work on the engine if you need to and it lets you see more of the engine.

Just my .02 cents

Long week and even a Longer Weekend.

Hung out at the waterpark with the kids and swallowed more chlorine then I want to admit.

Last week Robert from the Pro-Touring Forum made a suggestion.

So I took his advice and built yet another set of inner fenders.

He was right it cleaned up the engine bay and will make life much easier if I ever have to work on this thing.

I was able to get the rear bumper mounted.

We are going to have to pie cut the rear corner cladding to make it fit better.

2006_09_02_001.jpg

Mounted the Tailgate with the second set of hinges (Genuine GM) and the tailgate doesn't fit any better then it did with the LMC Truck Hinges that were a 4th the price.

Dusted some paint on the radiator cover.

That's all for this week.

IMO, the other rounded inner fenders looked better. Gave it a much smoother and cleaner look. The ones in those pictures almost look stock. Sure it will make it easier to work on things, but after you're done, what's there to work on? Should be flawless and brought to shows. Not driven everyday and broken :dunno:

I'm not getting the Boyd Coddington vibe on the new inner fenders.

The big swoopy ones looked cooler IMO but those new ones would make life less complicated in the long run.

not stock
Re: Sonoma GT 0334 - Build Pics

I'd vote for the best LOOKing inner fenders....but just make sure you make them easily removeable. Even the stock fenders only take a couple minutes to remove. :2cents:

Going back to the original concept of the truck being a Factory Prototype - these make more sense.

here is where i got the idea

I think you have the right idea on going back to the original concept of the truck being a Factory Prototype as it would really stand out.

....Will you need to have access to your air ride suspension or chassis via the inner fenders?
I like the idea that you could work on things, and still have a clean "stealthy" look. But thats
my weirdness.

I was more curious about your Chevrolet tail gate tho...gin

Are those last two pictures of the new Ford "super chief" or whatever, with the fancy interior and whatnot? I saw a mag article on it a while ago, but I didn't think they were -really- going to do something that gawdy.

I would like to Thank Flaming Rivers for looking at my Project and offer to Sponsor us.

You can visit them at http://www.flamingriver.com/

Steve was kind enough to recommend the right steering box for my project.

The ratio is 14 to 1 which is more then I'll ever use on the Power Tour

That's all for this week as I didn't have time to work on the truck this week.
The good news is Dave worked on it for me.

Re: Sonoma GT 0334 - Build Pics

Good Day to All,

Stopped by the Shop with my Dad last night he wanted to see the truck in person instead of pictures.
He said looks good just don't tell your wife how much you've spent.

I installed the new Flaming Rivers Steering Box and let me say it was on in 10 minutes.
It's nice having compatible parts. Everything fit perfect.

The Bed Floor is almost complete should be ready to go to the body guy in 2 weeks

2006_09_14_002.jpg

We closed up the back panels - just to clean it up a little

2006_09_14_003.jpg

We needed to add a little metal to the back corners so we mount the cladding.

2006_09_14_006.jpg

This is the last Panel needed to be completed. Then the bed is done
