Sy doesnt feel as fast as stock ty

I just bought a 58,000 mile syclone from a guy in TX. I knew it had a upgraded turbo, intake and exhaust. But after driving it, compared to my brothers nearly stock typhoon it just doesnt have the punch his ty has. Especially down low. The turbo is a AIR 60, which i'm told is a pretty good size. the injectors are red, it has a chip in it. Original tranny as far as im told.

I looked the other day and the TC is not painted, plain steel so i'm assuming it's the original. I'd like to put it back to stock, but am being told to keep what I have. It;s running about 16-17 psi at WOT. Any ideas?

Parts not make one fast.

What chip? What size exhaust? Catalytic converter? Any gauges other than the ones in the dash?

Can you take pics of the engine bay (might help with spotting parts)?

Do you have easy access to a laptop?

ID the turbo and figure out what torque converter suites that turbo size.
Pull your ECM down and pull the chip out and see what you have... upgrade the injectors to 60 injectors and purchase a turbotweak chip for 60's and enjoy a fast truck with a safe tune

First thing I would suggest is to stop getting into any boost until you can data log. By what you are describing. Someone has bolted on a few parts and called it good. The chip most likely does not have the correct tune for your mods. If it doesn't your engine can be damaged very easily. That is very costly.

Your truck will probably need other parts to go with the ones to make it run correctly. That will cost money and a lot of work.

If you are not interested in the cost and time needed in the upkeep of a modded truck. You might want to consider. Selling the performance parts and putting it back stock. Stock usually last much longer. And is faster than a modded one that is not set up the way it needs to be.

theres no cat on the truck. 3" cat back from rpm. So the red injectors are stock ones?

Laptop have serial port or USB? You're going to want to get an ALDL cable as soon as possible.

Re: Sy doesnt feel as fast as stock ty

The truck has 3" exhaust, 3" atr downpipe, atr external wastegate, atr turbo which is at least a te44 or larger and no injector upgrade tells me the chip is a cheezy 2bar map chip which will run very lean and cost you a motor if not taken care of.

The truck's probably running soo lean the ecm is pulling all the timing out to try to prevent detonation so don't get into boost with that thing anymore until you get some injectors and matching chip with 3bar map.

In the case of going back to stock or keepign what you have. I'd keep what you have and just do the injector upgrade and chip from turbotweak then work on eventually upgrading the torque converter but if you were to go back to stock you'd need the following items with a bunch of hours to do the work.

stock turbo
stock wastegate actuator
stock downpipe
stock cat or stock size test pipe
If you keep the 3" catback then you'd need a pipe to connect 2.5 to 3
stock boost control solenoid and associated vacuum lines
stock turbo elbow
stock crossover tube
stock airbox or a cone
both stock turbo coolant lines
brass 90 degree coolant connection from the front of the block
stock turbo drain line (a real bitch to get to on the oil pan)

I'll second TurboTweak (currently running one myself). The 2bar MAP is a "must replace" item, as they're only good to measure up to 15psi. Hood (Hoodtuned.com) sells a 3ba MAP that's perfect. You can gently pull the old MAP off and tell us the number on the bottom of it.

Can't tell if you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator (aka: AFPR), so take a pic of the little can-like object on the passenger side of the distributor. It juts off of the fuel rail.

Also... read these two links:

Tooky covers a lot of real good points.

that make sense.

Yes you are already past the point of easily returning to stock. Looks like you are going to have to learn how to work on a modded SyTy. They are great and can be scary fast when you get them dialed in. The time and expense keeping them that way is the not so fun part.
