I have seen turbine wheels turn blue from heat. once the turbo is disassembled, you will be able to tell if there was an oiling issue there. The physical damage to the wheel, however, points to something else entirely. What do your plugs look like?
I don't want to sound like a hater Mike, but something is seriously wrong somewhere. You need to go back and double-check everything. I would at least do a leakdown. If not, a full tear down and inspection.
