Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen.

Hey guys,

I am curious if on TP5RT you can have a custom dash set-up?
For example, have a dash w/man press,RPM,ignition & O2.
Is it possible to customize?

Thanks

Can't see the cursor, but all you do is right-click on the area of the gauge to edit and select a new value to display.

On TP5RT , is there a command to smooth out the fueling table cells? If so,, how do you go about doing that?
Hope that Q makes sense.

I'll say this first. Give the truck what it wants. The most pretty fuel table isn't the best working one always.

Open your F29X table and highlight the cells you want to smooth
look for "FUNCTION"
The down carrot will take you to "SMOOTH"
enter a "Value" and hit "EXECUTE.
(Note: the value can be a + or - number)

Remember you are changing your fuel table not just making a pretty map.
I would error on the side of more fuel.
Also a rule of thumb - no cells with more than a 5 difference but not always keep that in mind.

I usually hand smooth the map as I am tuning and I don't use the Function/Smooth. The way you do it is up to you.

Thanks for the info.

Next question is , what table do I use just to raise or lower the idle?
My friend cleaned (removed all the BS stuff I dont need) up the DELL laptop & I am getting ready to finally drive the Sy around & do some street tuning.
If all goes well, maybe in a month or 2 we will attemp to dyno tune it. $50/HR

Thanks everyone for the info & tips, I will have more Q's so be patient, I am slow @ this stuff, but what a relief ,,, I got a laptop working & having fun running code 59 & TP5RT!;)

B.T.W., I had to order a laptop battery so I am waiting for that, plus my 300 watt power inverter took a dump on me last week.
Any power inverters you guys recommend? It will just be for running the laptop.
Thanks again.

Ok. I am going to show you hopefully how to answer a lot of your own questions...

First turn on all the TOOLBARS under the VIEW tab in TPRT5 put a check mark in every toolbar.
Second look for an icon that looks like a MAGNIFYING GLASS-(actually the Parameter Search Tool) and click on that. A window will open and you will type your search word in the box labled "Word(s)". To use your example type: IDLE into that box and hit SEARCH. This will bring up every instance of items related to IDLE.
Last go to ( http://www.nwstp.com/forum/sitenews.asp ) on the left side is (in yellow) the links to the P4 document. You can look up what each IDLE item is from the search results above to make changes. The P4 will look like jibberish to you until you search out each individual item and read to find out what it does.

You can apply this "Search" -(Parameter Search Tool) feature to most of the items you are looking for.
Also: it is a good idea to go read the Sticky Jeff Scott and Hood made in the tuning section here and read alot. And go review the powerpoint presentations on tuning: Tuning 101 and the P4 for reference.

To answer your second question (Power Inverters). First let me explain what you are doing when you use a power inverter in your vehicle...

Your laptop runs off of DC voltage. So when you use an inverter you are converting DC voltage from your trucks alternator (DC 12v) to (AC 120v) and then you plug in your laptop AC power cord which does just the opposite. It converts the (AC 120v) back to (DC voltage) that matches the input of your laptop. THIS IS NOT VERY EFFICIENT. (also it is like carrying a hot brick around in your truck).
There is a better way. Find yourself a DC (Cigarette lighter) to DC cord for your laptop. Make sure it matches not only the voltage but polarity for your laptop or you will let the smoke out (burn it up). Look on your AC cord for your laptop at the label on the lump in the cord there will be a rating on there for the DC output this is the voltage and polarity you need listed on there for you. The polarity will be a symbol the shows a (-) going to either the tip or the barrel of the connector and the (+) going to either the tip or barrel of the plug also you should be able to figure this out by the symbol. Note: every laptop has a different voltage so pay attention to not only the voltage but the polarity - I cannot stress this enough. You can find these on ebay very cheap from overseas. Here is an example of one for an Acer Aspire: http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_kw=car&_kw=power&_kw=acer&_kw=aspire
You need to look up one for your specific laptop/voltage/polarity and check the description for the correct specs.

Gonna try to fire the Syclone this weekend and if so, I'll knock out another tuning tutorial covering a lot of info.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

Hey guys, finally got to go out & try out this tunning w/code59.
Initally every area was way too lean.I could see the numbers were getting really close to the 99.6 & I was still too lean
I had to go to table F28 & change the number to 240, initially it was set @ 186 w/Robs 40 lb bin.

I am only using pump 91 octane from Mobil.

Right now I am running a 195 T-stat, I normally run a 160, does that make a big difference on knocking?

I never ran a 195 T-stat when running it hard.

I am going to put the 160 T-stat in, just have not done it since I smogged it last.

The M.A.T.s were in th 80's down to 59 "F" w/methanol.

Another question is that I am getting knock in a few areas running 30-40% throttle & 15-19 psi of boost.

The timing is as low as 6 degrees, is this too little? Or do you guys to sometimes run that type of timing or even less. A/F ratios were about 11.3 I noticed in a couple areas of knock
I am using methanol injection the A/F ratio I am aiming for is about 10.3

I did some data logging but I am just getting into this stuff, so not much to view & post @ this point.

Thanks for any tips.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

Can anyone post a pic/screen shot of there timing table from TR5RT?

I am running up to 24 psi & a timing table of someone running simular boost level & pump gas would be good.
It's not to copy @ all just to get an idea.
Thanks

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

I'll toss mine up this evening, but you could just go grab some bins from the code59 library and open them or load them as comparison bins if you just want to see what values are in a table (or tables).

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

Found a bin on my work PC (a stock 59 bin that I modified for a customer):

And here's F3 for reference:

The reason for the timing scaling in F3 is that you get a bump in timing when the Intake temps are nice and cool (working IC system, cold day, etc...). Conversely, you get some timing pulled automatically when the Intake temps are high (failed IC system, hot day, etc...). Kind of a fail safe.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

Thank you

I was wondering if you ever had to run as little as 6 degrees of timing?
I am running 91 octane & a 195 T-stat for now.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

You have to take the whole timing picture into consideration. You could have a cell in F1 commanding 15 deg of timing, but a corresponding cell in F3 taking out 3 deg of timing. Or you could have could have knock retard pulling out timing. Or you could have a coolant map altering timing due to an exceptionally low deg thermostat. Lots of things to consider when trying to look at an aspect as a whole. Same thing applies for fuel. Even carbs have multiple things that affect the amount of fuel delivered.....you can expect EFI to have a bunch too.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen.

The file location of the bin, adx, & xdf file are irrelevant to TP5. You can dump all three into one folder or make subfolders for each file type. You will link them in TP5 and it will preserve that file association until changed or deleted. Like I showed in the first tuning video (http://www.sytysolo.com/multimedia/tuning-tutorials/), just point TP5 to the files and off you go.

Do like Mike suggested and relink those files, ensuring that you're using the latest adx/xdf files. If needed, LMK and I'll send them to you.

Just and FYI and something I still need to finish.

Tthere is functionality in TP5 to have it AUTOLINK the ADX with the XDF items. It takes a lot of setup to get it to work. You have to set the Units type on each item in the ADX and then do the same for each axis in the table/constant for the XDF. Then in the DA ASSOC Tab of each XDF item change the link mode of each axis from EXPLICT to Data Type/Units Matching. Then no matter where the files are they would link up. Problem is, I worked on this over a year ago when TunerPro5 was still being developed and things kept changing (new units being added, etc) and I lost a lot of work. So I put it on hold and now that TP5 is released, I can go back and take a look at this again. I did most of it but I need to go back and double check all the unit types. Wouldn't want to link something to the wrong ADX item automatically and then the bubble would look wrong.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

OK, Thanks Mike & I understand what you are saying.

I need to look @ the tuning picture as a whole. I am just in the beginning stages of tuning so I have a lot to learn, I know.

I am not familar w/using the F3 table & I am not sure if Robs 40 lb bin has some of these settings in the F3 table.

I still am wondering if any of you tuner guys have had to run 6 degrees of timing in a couple cells so the engine won't detonate.

I saw 3.9 degrees of KR in one spot & one other spot of 9 IIRC when slowly letting off of the throttle.

Thanks

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

The F3 table is simple.....it reads the MAT sensor and depending on the boost level, it commands the addition or subtraction of spark advance based on what you have in the table. So in the pictured table above, if you're running 18.1 psi and it's a cold day and your MATs are around 75 degF (cell = 24 degC x 18.1 psi), you'll see about 1.41 deg of timing added to the timing equation. And remember that cells average, so if you ran 16 psi in the above example, the table would be averaging between the 1.41 and 1.05 cells. 16 psi and 50 degF.....it'll average among 4 cells.

I have never intentionally commanded anything below 10 degrees in a timing map. For a stock tune, when cruising, timing will generally be commanded in the 20-28 degree range and when under boost will be 14-20 degree range on average. If you have to command a really low timing number to get 0 KR, then you have something genuinely causing KR that needs attention or you're getting false KR from somewhere. A healthy truck on pump gas should be able to run 14-16 deg without KR at 15-18 psi boost.

Re: Tuner pro 5 tracer cell on table screen & TP5RT questions.

Question.
If I wanted to say open a bin from code 59 website for viewing , how would I go about doing this?
I tried to but I got this pop up windows cannot open this file I need a program to do so, anyone know what program or link I need to download to view a bin file?

Thanks.
