Turn Signals not working

So, for some reason turn signals arent working on the Ty. Neither left or right. The bulbs stay lit, and the indicator on the dash stays on, but does not flash.
All bulbs appear good (as they all flash when I turn hazards on)
99% of time, would figure its the flasher, so bought a new one from AutoZone. Didnt change a thing. Quickly pulled a few fuses and they looked ok. Did not check the manual to ensure I had the right circuit (as soon as I walk in the house, my wife is going to want me to watch a movie lol)
Ground? Fuse? Where to look? Did a quick search and didnt see anything, and didnt look to be a common issue.

hazards work fine. Didnt think that there was a relay for the hazards, just the flasher (#552) in the fuse panel?

Matt, check the ground wire at the rear bumper frame rail drivers side.

The flasher for the turn signals is in the "convenience center" mounted behind the panel that the park brake release is in. It is a square box, a little larger than the white box. I don't remember if its on the lower right, or upper left, but probably on the lower right. Remove the under dash hush panel, the park brake release, then the under steering column panel.

The 552 flasher in the fuse panel is the hazard flasher.

do all your lightbulbs work? if you have to less of a resistance (broken bulbs) it won't flash but stays lit.

It sounds like Davep is onto it.....if the flasher in the fuse box is for hazards, then I replaced the wrong one, and need to replace the flasher for the turn signals. Just have to locate it. This is what's behind the parking release handle. Black box on the top says "buzzer" and neither white one looks to be that flasher.

You found it. It doesn't look like a regular thermal flasher because it's electronic. I was right. It's on the lower right. Being an electronic flasher it has THREE prongs. The box on the lower left is the horn relay, and the thing on the top is the tone generator for seatbelt, lights on, and key buzzer.

When you remove the flasher, the inboard prong is a GROUND. Test to be sure this is <1ohm to a known good ground. ( I use the door pin switch). If an electronic flasher isn't grounded, it won't flash.

The other connections are good, because the signal lights come on, but don't flash. Post here if you need more. I'll check the thread again later.

When you remove the flasher, the inboard prong is a GROUND.

This is ambiguous. Let me fix it: Looking at the three connections, the one on the left is ground. Middle bottom is to the signal switch, and right one is hot with key in IGN.

If still confused, look behind it. The BLACK wire is ground.

As an inquisitive mind, pulled out the manual, they call it the hazard flasher (and ironically, the next page which shows the fuse block doesn't call out the flasher function at all).

The autozone book calls for a 552 flasher for turn signal and hazard flasher, which appears to be incorrect. The one in the fuse block is a 552, and two prong, and the one in the convenience center behind the brake release, is 3 prong, and has 15607060 for the gm part number, along with 136. Going to head to the store in a bit

So.... They crossed over that flasher to a 760, plugged it in and I now have turn signals.

Cool. I just brought home the BIG S/T wiring diag/trouble shooting manual. I wuz gonna type out the diag sequence for ya. Not long but still some typing. Any other wiring questions while I got the thing home?:lol:

Don, I appreciate it. I believe I am good on wiring stuff for now. Next step is the horn, which has not worked in years from what I recall from the previous owner. It's missing the wire that connects from the back of the button and goes into (I believe) the white plastic hole..... I took this pic from my spare wheel. At this point just have to install it and will go from there.

but on to why i posted, i searched but can you post the full part #/info of what you just bought to make it work, im going to be in search of a led compatible flasher soon.
and you can buy those horn wires with the twist lock on ebay i believe fwiw..

The turn signal flasher is behind the brake release panel. You have to remove the cover to access the fuses, then the panel below the steering column. You will see, right behind the panel behind the parking brake release, what they call the convenience panel. Mine (I believe stock 92 Ty) had three things in it. The lower right one is the turn signal flasher. The gm part number is listed in the thread above. The parts store crossed it to a little fuse 760.
That's their oem replacement.

I did a slight bit of searching prior to my first post, and this doesn't seem to be a super common issue with these trucks (maybe I'm wrong?) but I hope that someone can use this in the future. The shop manuals weren't overly clear, Davep offered more insight than what it had.

Yea i just did a little research and think i got everything figured out on what im gonna need, thanks for starting the thread then i guess..

You can get an LED bulb specific flasher relay. I put LED bulbs in my Sy and I'm pretty sure I got a specific over the counter relay for it, but I can't remember the part number. Fixes the fast flash issue.

I've replaced all of my bulbs, other than headlights, with LEDs. It takes an electronic flasher with ground lead to flash normal with LEDs. The problem I'm working on now is wiring in a trailer light converter to get the front side markers to function like normal incandescents. While I have the wire loom on the front opened I'm going to upgrade the headlight wire and put in relays to solve the dim lights. The existing wire is tiny.

LMC truck sells a complete headlight upgrade harness including the relays. http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/cst/search.aspx?searchTerms=36-3580&rURL=/icatalog/cst/full.aspx $30, but it includes hideous yellow wire wrap. It also only uses the drivers side headlight socket to trigger everything.
