Hi. I am currently putting together a list of all of the parts needed to install my vortecs. Maybe after, this can go in the vault for viewing as more guys upgrade to vortecs? Anyway here is my list so far. Please add to it if you can. Maybe you can throw in sealants nessasary, bolts, tricks, etc...

All parts are from summit who is the cheapest i found so far.

1. Lifters comp cams PN# 875-12

2. Push rods. For stock untouched heads/block PN# CCA-7808-12 $30.39

3. Felpro 1203 lower intake to heads gasket. $23.99

4. Head gasket- FPP-1032 Summit

5. Valve covers- stcok syty metal covers, plastic vortecs, edelbrocks.

6. ARP vortec head bolts. PN# 233-3701 $116.99 or for those of you who prefer studs PN# 233-4301 $108.99

7. ARP rocker studs. PN# 100-7201 $40.69

If anyone can help out with covers, gakets and such please do. Thanks!! :D

Do you need to use their lifter kit or will the stockers work? I also have the atr double chain. Will this take the place of the comp?

if your using the 412 kit you will have to have the heads machined for the springs they included with it.

yes that is the correct number. It's special order because it's a complete kit. That's why the number is not listed. I triple checked it and was given the number directly by comp cams. The price came from summit. John what spring would you recommend so that we don't have to machine the heads? Do we need to use their lifters or will our stockrs work?

stockers will not work. springs...you've got about 10 choices. use the comp 850-12 lifter. I think thats the right #

875-12 is the number you want. 850-12 works, but John and I had the 850s explode on us. The retaining design lacks IMO. 875s are pro magnum series and when compared to the 850, you'll see why they're better.

AFAIK the conical CC springs (#982-12) can be used without machining, but you need special retainers to use them. But someone pls clarify this!

Later,

this is true. thats what I put on my last motor. they are a nice piece but you do need special retaiers, and that depends on the valve stem that your using....

Hi mike. I just called comp back to see what ohter parts i would need to complete this and they told me NOT to get the 875's as every few months you will have to go back in an adjust them. They also said that if you guys had them explode that the motor should have been gone too. Can anyone clarify this? I don't want to order the wrong parts but i do need to order them soon.

Just spoke with CompCams about the 850 and 875 lifter. The representative indicated that the 875's are more stable at high RPM. They also are noisier.

So Walleyworld and Hood have you guys noticed this? I really don't want to annoy the knock sensor more than normal but I want the best lifter.

The guy also recommended running them with zero lash.

The guy at comp told me those spring are for shifts at 7k. He said there is no need for them at all and they are a pain because you will always have to maintain. Just going from what they told me. I ahve also hear this. maybe someone here can back this up with more info. The vortec's stock springs are fine for 500 lift. So you should just be able to install the vortecs the way they come stock right? Would you need pushrods?

Again I am talking lifters not springs. In my situation I am running spring pressures of around 130 closed. I plan on shifting between 5-6k depending on what works best. I was told the 850 lifter should be used at 6k max and is not as strong as the 875.

No the stock Vortec springs are NOT good for .500 lift. Run them stock and you will find little pieces of spring floating around in your motor after a few miles. Pushrods depends on the rest of your setup. Custom length may be required for proper geometry and hardened pushrods are required for guideplates.

yeah you cant run the stock spring at 500. and the lifter that michael quted is what I've run and michale and everybopdy I've built motors for....so..I know they work..
