W/G question

How can one tell that it is working properly. I just did a complete tune-up and after running TEC thru it and running it down the road there was smoke and funny smell coming from where the W/G lever goes into the turbo. I put new vacuum lines and W/G solenoid on it not long ago but haven't driven it since then. This was it's frst real trip out. Thanks

Watch the boost gauge to see if it's working properly. The smell and leak is probably normal as the TEC gets blown out the exhaust.

when its cold, take your hand and see if you have move the rod. it should be able to move, if not. i'd say it's not working.

I've seen quite a few of 'em that work fine cold, but bind up once you've
made 3-4 hard passes.

Best way to check it:

Pull the passenger side fenderwell (~12 bolts)

Go make 2-3 hard pulls.

With a welding glove, or something that makes sure you don't burn
yourself, remove the servo rod, and see if the flapper arm moves
freely. You should be able to move it back and forth using only your
pinky.

If it moves nice while it's still hot, you're golden. If it doesn't, try working
some GM heat riser lube (Get it from a GM dealer) or spray-on never-seez
into the flapper area.

Sometimes, the only fix is to grind the weld off the flapper arm, drive the
WG shaft through into the housing, and drill the hole out a 1/64" bigger
or so. That's where mine is at right now.... :(
