I've done some tuning with the kit, but I'm getting a lot of false knock so I haven't pushed it far. I've chased down several things (downpipe hitting the frame, fuel lines hitting the block) and have cut the knock down, but there is still a decent amount there. I know it's false because it's completely random when it shows up, and higher octane fuel makes no difference. Motor mounts are getting replaced shortly - hopefully that will help.

Great writeup. I have this kit and installed it virtually the same way except my controller is on the pas side of the trans tunnel. Easier to reach.

The tech guys at Infineon finally figured out that that tank was not a radiator tank but an alky tank in the engine compartment and required that I put it elsewhere. So I have a different tank in the bed.

I have a set of set wires coming off the pump relay so I can adjust "initial" voltage with a digital VM. That controller is VERY sensitive. Also turn-on is important and prolly left alone.

The sintered(sp?) bronze nozzle filter supplied by Julio soon plugged up with some unknown ugly black stuff so I replaced mine with a larger stainless screen. You'll know it's plugged when the test button quits, DM and WB go wacky for no reason.

In my experience false knock means you're spraying too much alky. DM and a wide band are definitely your friends here.

I put on the regular cap as a disguise. That worked for a couple of seasons. Then they saw me refilling it and asked what I was doing. They were cool about it though. I finished the season and did the mod over the winter.

I followed this install and it is an awesome write up - I've been dreading it for 4 years according to the manufacturing date on the alky control kit and this gave me the motivation to get it in the truck.

Just a quick clarification (I hope I'm right)

If using the Low Coolant LED
The low coolant tan wire runs through the loom into the cab. This needs to be connected to the (-)ve of the LED which in series needs a power source. As recommended by the OP, it is good to have it connected to the power block so it is a switched IGN source.

However, the instructions arew a bit confusing.

Took me some head scratching but if you ground the LED and connect it to the power, it'll just be on all the time. If you provide power to the sensor with no light, it won't do much!! I've wired the 12v to the LED then the LED to the float sensor - I'm assuming that the contacts are closed when the tank is empty?

Have I got this wrong?

I didn't use the low-level LED and don't have the original instructions in front of me, so I had to review the writeup again myself. I believe you've wired it up right. The low-level sensor closes when the fluid in the tank is low. That means if you ground the black ring terminal from the sensor, the tan wire from the sensor will also be grounded when the fluid is low. I believe you should connect the tan wire from the sensor to the tan wire from the LED, and connect the red wire from the LED to a power source. That way the LED always has power, but is only grounded when the sensor detects the fluid is low. When I said the tan wire from the LED is connected to a ground, I meant it would be connected to a wire that gets grounded, not to wire it directly to a ground.

Cool, thanks for the response!

I went ahead and wired my low coolant light in the dash as well. I also rewired my Greddy wastegate through the stock boost control relay so I have that safety feature. No alky means no boost!

I have installed about 15 of these kits over the years and one thing I've always done is to install the map signal green wire tap on the ECM side and not the engine side.

it saves wire and keeps from having to run more stuff under the hood. I usually also like to install the control box near the brake, pedal laying it on top of the trim panel.

I reccommend checking all of the crimped connections in the kit, I was checking it out and the ground wire off the relay terminal came out of its crimp without much trouble. I couln't get the pushed in terminal back out so i ended up soldering it while it was still in the block. that was the only connection I had any issue with, but I'm glad I found it. My kit was kinda goofy, as it was a retrofitted kit that was a bit older, but just a word of caution

I'm doing the innstallation of the alky contr. and I have come as far as to the connection of the low level LED, as I understand it is not a big deal where the power supply for this is comming from, (IGN hot OK?) instruction say I can use red wire to pump, is this wire hot at all time or only when pump is running? or should I use the red wire from IGN hot to relay for pump? Great write up BTW. Thanks for any reply.

One additional "add-on" I have is a couple of pigtails available off the pump motor supply connections. I use these to set "initial" voltage. I plug in a DVM and with engine running push the test button and check voltage being sent to the pump. At least on my setup, the initial setting is extremely sensitive. When I change it I use a screwdriver, check voltage, readjust as necessary, then wiggle the knob a bit and recheck.

Maybe there is something wrong with mine but that thing is extremely sensitive. I have found that very small changes in both turn-on and initial make a big difference. Once dialed in you should be able to leave alone but this is a handy way to double check.
