Bill, the combo I posted on here sold fairly quick.....just haven't been on here to update the post until last night.

Addressing your last post, here's some reference material:

I sold a nice, complete, fairly low mile Sy roller for $4800 and had 6 people lined up to buy it. I am guessing as is, you could pull $1700-2000 for yours. Whatever you sink in it (and cladding is expensive) you will have to recoup to stay out of the red. With a paint job, labor and replacement body pieces, I would guess you are looking at $3000 on the cheap end and that is being optimistic. That sets you at $4700-5000 with double the miles as mine and wrecks (which mine did not have). If you are on the fence, I think letting it go now "as is" would be the wisest call.

Having typed all that, I do have a nicely built motor and possibly a nicely built trans which might be spoken for but not sure yet (both under 1600 miles) and I could bring to MI in April. Won't be $800 for the combo but I would certainly make it worth your money to help you out. Can guarantee both to work fine. Will shoot you a PM shortly :tup:

Got your PM. I don't think that's really the route I want to go with the engine, but we'll see. I've got a Blake-rebuilt transmission in it now with no known issues, so I'm not specifically looking for one (though your other deal including one was a bonus).

The big thing is that everything wrong with the body is either unfinished repairs from the deer accident (missing cladding pieces) or his screwups doing the repairs (taped off and painted around the decals on the door cladding, etc.). As far as I'm concerned, it's still in progress and I should get it back with the body 100% complete and done well (as you would expect any fully-covered insurance repair to be). Actually making that happen might be a pain though (involving a lawyer and associated fees). While it may not be a perfect-condition low-mileage roller, it should end up being "pretty good" with no additional cost to me. I'm thinking maybe $3,500 or so.

That would be a good down payment toward another nicer SyTy. Since I have a big garage and a couple other DDs now, any new SyTy I got would be strictly a sunny day toy. I've been looking at the Trucks For Sale section scoping things out...

All things considered, I feel your target price is well within reason once the truck is returned back to you. All the best :tup:

I started talking to the body shop guy again today. I guess I'll see how it goes with him before I decide anything too crazy.

I snapped a couple pics on the way into the house tonight. In addition to 1456, you'll also get to see a dead Saturn (Sy-1177's info is still in my phone from that trip), vintage Stoner Trim Shine (another kinda-sorta-works cladding un-grayer), and the two-wheeled toys that have helped to tide me over a bit while the truck's been down. Included in the junk on the passenger seat is a new fuel filter and a set of UR5's.

I guess it's not really that bad. It's probably more just all the little crap that I've had to deal with during this repair. If I can get decent results out of him without involving a lawyer, I might end up just getting a new (used) engine for it. I think it's in pretty good shape for 200k (a lot of that was highway miles between GR and A2), especially with all the recent bodywork. It's been driven a lot, but I generally take pretty good care of my stuff too.

I found some old pics (September '08) that I took to document the issues that it had after his repairs. http://syclone.invisibill.net/images/20080922/ They're 1600x1200 and about 500KB each.

You can see misaligned body panels, cladding that isn't quite painted all the way to the edge, and orange peel in the new paint. Maybe I'm just a perfectionist, but I don't think that's what I should end up with after a full-coverage insurance repair.
