OK, so I know this a clone, but since my painter of 20+ years is now blowing me off for some reason, I am now looking for someone to shoot the cladding/grille. Talking to some local people & family, Some like the argent grey idea (easier...no color blending), which is what the original lower color was. And shoot the grille in '92 scheme w/ grey center & headlight openings. Some say to do it all red, with all red grille, or '92 grey grille. Getting to be too many choices. I may have found a local shop that does some great work (but could be pricey$$), or I could trailer it to Kalispell where two other great painters are. The color choice may determine where to send it. What do you think?

Good idea going with the red. I think the red pick-ups look outstanding. I like the look of the solid color 93 grills with the gray cladding. But then again, I own a 93 so......:D

Chip, I like the '92 idea, with Argent cladding. Otherwise, too much red, in my opinion. Red, or black grille letters?

i think black would be sweet. but argent would look good too.

Re: Which Cladding Color?

all red it too red for me personally, assuming your keeping body red go with grey cladding.

Looks like a well done extended cab clone, always wondered what it would look like being they never made cladding for them. Truck should look good.

Does it have AWD and turbov6 also?

Re: Which Cladding Color?

I voted for the red/gray combo! So let me take a guess on how you did this.... first, cut a Ty lower rocker to get the straight part, then mold these 2 pieces together from a Ty to get the ex-cab portion? I would love to do this, or a 4dr Ty someday!

Re: Which Cladding Color?

The front piece is TY. Cut it about 1/4" into the back sweep up. Then take a SY rocker & cut it about 1/4" into front sweep up. From back side @ seam, fill in extra weld at bottom where two sweeps come together so you can sand down to blend. Then I took broken door piece, cut to length, repaired where needed, & welded it in to fill in x-cab portion. The back Sy portion gives you a working line to add the door piece to. I used that plastic welder kit and wire mesh for strength, but used broken cladding pieces to melt into the weld. When you sand, it blends in and sands the same as the cladding. The sticks that come w/ the welder don't blend in very well, but can be used on the back surface for strength. I used the mesh on every seam & mend, even on re-attaching tabs. Almost every piece for this project needed repairing somewhere

.

EDIT: I bought this truck in spring '90 when the new grille style was just released, so it's pre Vortec TBI. But I have been looking into Wynjammer supercharger for it. It's 2WD. The wife Is gonna kill me, but you only live once.

I vote all red. my only reason is a longer vehicle is going to look thinner with 2 tone. All the same color and black emblems and it will flow

Gotta go to work, but I'll take some back pics & post tonight. The Sy rockers were yours.

Re: Which Cladding Color?

I'd do the dark argent, with a red grille with the argent metallic headlight areas.
It gets too red with the full grille being one color.

Awsome work. Nice to see something that hasn't been done to death.

Did a double take before I realized it was an extend cab. Awesome work, looks clean and factory fresh!
I voted Red w/ argent - In my opinion too much red (or any solid color for that matter) and everything blends together.
