Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

thanks storm. i am lowering the truck 2 more inches this weekend, but other than that it will stay as stock "Looking" as possible. traction has been the fun part. yesterday i lit them up at 40 miles per hour. thought the tranny was slipping until i got a little side ways :) WHY DOESN'T ANYONE MAKE TIRES FOR 16" RIMS??? THE WIDEST I CAN FIND IS A 255??? Any ideas on where to go? i really want to keep the stock look.

The goal is to be in the low 11's by March

Cool!! A new member that makes things happen!! whats the deal with the your accessories? Is that the 97 configuration on the syty motor? You don't need a BOV...I would forget about the vortec heads and the cam for now...the PTE52 sounds like a great idea....get with phil long (turbo6) for a great chip....Your knock could be alot of different things, from a faulty alternator to bad spark plugs or wires....just start replacing everything and constantly datalog it...good luck...

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

thanks. this thing is a blast. I thought it was pretty quick at first but we finally figured out that it was only firing on 5 cylinders. Now she really sits you back in your seat! The spark knock is not bad at all right now, i think i had the gap too big in the first set of plugs i put in because its running extremely smooth now. but i still only get around 14 psi. i thought with a manual boost controller i would top that number. no such luck so far. The motor is set-up like a 97 including the 97 ECM. Its been a little tricky but once i get it tuned right i think its gonna haul @#%$. I got to get to the low 11's cus my boss has a 2006 Corvette Z06 and i can not allow him to beat me when we hit the track in March:) so i will build until i get there. Also i am going to buy a Sy this winter but i bet him that my truck would beat him so i got no choice.

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

call me crazy but i did not see an o2 sensor on the dp. How did you get the stock 97 ecm to work?

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

I have another guy offerring to put a "show" paint job on it for next to nothing if i will help advertize his business when i go to the shows. He wants to put invisible flames on the truck. what do you guys think? i have seen the quality of this guys work and it is top notch, but i am not sure i want to have flames on the truck.

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

you might want to get a bracket fabbed up, so you don't blow your upper intercooler hose off.

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

We have a few brackets that need to be made. If you look closely enough you will see a few zip ties holding things in place until we figure out where we need the brackets. I have blown every intercooler ducting connection on the truck. Now every pipe has a bead welded around it to help prevent the clamps from sliding off. All of the ducting is polished and clear coated and since putting the beads on the ducting nothing has blown off. Take notice of the piece that connects to the throttle body. take a guess what this piece is from.... anyone know???

Looking good.Is that elbow made of metal? If it is,I suggest welding a bracket to it that you can bolt to the lower intake manifold.

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

Sure looks like one doesn't it. (And it might even be the same aprt, but that's not how i bought it). Hint: This is a OEM part for a GM vehicle. And Jimmy it is Metal.

Whatever it is, it sure would have saved me from using the silicone one I settled for on my a2a I/C project!! hook us up with a part number for future reference please....looks good man!! why the 97 computer? I'm retty sure the 749 ecm would be way better for you....

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

Since you have a mass air you dont really need a custom tune yet anyway i would go with PCM's for less there great it looks great man....

Re: 97 Sonoma SYTY Conversion

I will get you the part number when i get back to the shop. May be Monday but i will get it to you. I used the 97 ECM cus I can fool the emissions test easier. I have no cat and 2 less o2 sensors and NO Error codes. When they hook up to me there's nothing suspicious about the truck it appears to be the same 4.3 liter. plus i was told it couldn't be done and there is always a way:)
