Re: Blown Engine

5-7k is not far off what you can buy a decent running version of these trucks for which is the sad thing.

Given the hassle of installing a new engine it might be worth considering. I'll probably get burned alive for speaking such herecy.

Then again, you don't know what is wrong with the next truck you buy....

Re: Blown Engine

Good to know...

Since I am not a car person. What would i need to mod the intake?

How much would it cost me on top of the engine?

vortec mod for the intake - $150 ish

vortec install = new cam, new injectors, new rockers, gaskets, new engine map, new fuel pump, new MAP sensor, etc etc.

You haven't mentioned your turbo and your wastegate for a while but expect $800 for the turbo if you are getting that done.

External / internal wastegate?

You CAN do it cheaply if you know what you are doing (Tooky did a VORTEC install for around $1500 I believe) but if not then plan on $3k for a Vortec install and you prob wouldn't be far off.

If you are upgrading your turbo, replacing your engine and doing the Vortec mod then you are looking at around $10k.

If you know what you are doing then you can save money.

Re: Blown Engine

im at 7 g's right now and that is pretty modded, but i know people. if you pay someone to pull it and put it back then expect to pay a lot. there is 20# of shit in a 10# box under that hood. i would say do it yourself and lable the hell out of everything no matter how obvious or small or big it is and learn your truck, then you will know where to go in the future if something is wrong.

Hate to rain on your parade... but if you're not a car person, you're in for a long, ugly road.
These trucks try the patience of the seasoned mechanic.

Based on that statement, I'd buy the used motor out of canada, put it in.
At that point, you need to think long and hard about keeping a vehicle that's going to cost you lots of time and money down the road.
