Blown Engine

Re: Blown Engine

It has happened though. My Chevelle blew apart #7 rod, and they had to sleeve the cylinder, but the block was fine.

Re: Blown Engine

The engine block you have is mostly like toast if the rod is stickying through. The chances of a half of a connecting rod swinging around on a crank and not critically damaging the block is pretty slim. My guess is the sheetmetal oil pan is not what absorbed all the energy.

With out removing the engine is there a way I can tell if its the engine is beyond repair?

Remove the oil pan?

What should I be looking for?

There is nothing outside of the oil pan >.>

How will I know my block is toast >.>

Re: Blown Engine

It's easier to pull the motor than pull the pan :2cents:

You won't really know until the motor is completely disassembled

see above replies. do you want a daily driver or a weekend cruiser ?

18psi and safe = 5k motor minimum

Re: Blown Engine

Just because you get a new engine does not mean it will not blow up when you start driving it. What chip and mods are done to your truck?? You need to find out what took your last motor out otherwise you may be looking at another rebuild in the near future after your new engine is installed.

It's all stock... besides the small crap like rims and starter >.>

No chip mods no extra PSI ... stock turbo...

Like I said in a previous post I believe it was because of a faulty waste gate on the turbo...

Re: Blown Engine

Most likely Fuel pump issue always starts with the blowing the engine.

Well as far as my last check you could still buy a GM Replacement Long Block 2400-2600 from the dealer, Also Jasper Sells Turbo Long Blocks as long as you plan to leave it stock. Of course for the warranty purpose you do need to have a Certified GM or Jasper Installation Place do the work.

If you have this done, i would have a Walbro Upgraded Fuel Pump installed in the Fuel Tank to be safe your fuel supply will be correct and make sure you change your fuel filter every 6,000-9,000 miles with an oil change.

Re: Blown Engine

Didn't you say you were running without a wastegate?

Yes I was told that as long as I didn't punch the car I didn't need the wastegate >.>

The wastegate was broken I was in the process of replacing it... with a bigger turbo...

Yea, I'm gonna bet on the the hole in the block from "over Boosting" Your turbo will go to the moon on boost since its not regulated by the wastegate. 30-40lbs of boost.

It also controls how fast the boost comes on, without it the computer is set-up knowing the control of the boost and disconnected, you were a ticking time bomb.

Does that have anything to do with a rod going through my oil pan?
Someone else stated that is what most likely happened.
Would over boosting cause that?

Would over boosting destroy the engine or is it rebuildable based on the hole in the oil pan...

OR is warmpancakes right? He states that he is 99% sure its toast >.>

Re: Blown Engine

yeah it will kill a motor real fast, it did mine and i had a functioning wastegate.

Btw im 99% sure its toast too, sorry man but that is always a bad sign when your rod is through the pan, i just spun mains and rods and my block was toast, along with rods and crank.

Actually the only things good were oil pan intakes and heads.:(

Re: Blown Engine

well until you take the motor out you won't now for certain. But when the rod lets go or breaks it depends on the up stroke or down stroke and it could take a huge gouge out of cylinder, could wrap up in the crank and damage block, the piston is detached that this time the piston could dame the motor without any rod attached, and all your oil is coming out of the bottom end, not good.

I would just buy replacement or you can build one and it will be 5,000-7,000 dollar range, and then will need other extra parts due to the mods.

Re: Blown Engine

If you stick vortec heads then your intake must be modded for it to bolt on correctly.

The motor with 87,000 miles doesn't look bad but its never a given, you never know, i'm working on a truck right now that someone bought for 19,000 and the No 1 Cyl had no compression and hole in the piston only under 30,000 miles on truck. He was told it just needed a tune up. "bought as is". Now we are just rebuilding the motor lightly becasue he has no money considering he took the guys word for it and after beating himself in the head and trying to fix it he brought it to my friends shop.

It doesn't matter what anyone says unless you can hear and drive it then it ain't worth buying a high mile used motor.

Good to know...

Since I am not a car person. What would i need to mod the intake?

How much would it cost me on top of the engine?
