SyTy parts compatility

NHSTE - I'm the only one!
Since someone asked, here is a hopefully pretty complete list of SyTy specific parts, or parts that are not and where they came from

Please help us complete the list, if I've missed anything or mixed something up, post the right answer and I will make sure to fix it

Driveline
-rear end is a standard GM 7.625”, with G80 code 3.42
-driveshaft is a Bravada part (slighlty shorter than 4x4)
-prop shaft is same as Bravada
-transfer case is stock Bravada stuff
-front diff is standard 3.42 Bravada, but the right axle tube is SyTy specific (potentially Bravada part, but unconfirmed)
-transmission is standard 4L60, but it has a different valve body, servos and clutches
-transmission cross member is SyTy specific (GM PN#15148804)
-If drive train includes motor... the block, rods, cam and crank are stock, as are the heads, for an LB4 motor. Pistons, intake/exhaust manifolds, DP, fuel rail, injectors, etc are not same. Oil pan is 4x4 tapped for turbo drain. Nodular main caps
-Half shafts are stock
-hubs are stock for a Bravada (they have a different part number, but they are interchangeable)
-brakes = stock
-Converter is higher stall than a normal S-Truck (GM PN#08691915 , is SyTy specific)
-wheels are specific
-shifter cable is SyTy specific
-Transfer case to Transmission adapter is different from 4x4 (most likely Bravada part)

Body & interior
-all the cladding is specific. Other than that, all panels interchangeable
-Bumper brackets are specific
-Fender to bumper supports are specific
-seats in Sy and 92 Ty are specific, 93 Ty seats made their way into some Blazers / Jimmys
-gauge cluster is from a 2nd gen. turbo sunbird (redline is different) with specific gauge bezel, mounting brackets and harness
-ECM is turbo sunbird as well
-console is specific to SyTy
-shifter, shift knob, shift boot, indicator lens, housing and needle are all from a 91-93 C4
-steering wheels are specific
-Radios are rare, but came in some Buicks as well
-glove box decal is specific
-exhaust / exhaust shields are SyTy specific, rear hanger on Sy is also specific
-console lid is stock S10, as are hinge and latch
-Battery tray is slightly different on Sy, but not on Ty
-Black grille letters and door hand escutheons are SyTy specific

Suspension
-front shocks are standard
-rear shocks and load leveling system are pretty much specific, may have found their way into a Bravada or two
-torsion bar pork chops are specific to SyTy
-rear leaf springs are specific to SyTy

Miscellaneous
-engine wiring is SyTy specific
-intercooler system is SyTy specific
-A/C lines to the compressor are SyTy specific but regular S10 can be used with a little reshaping
-forward most feed and return fuel lines are specific
-lower radiator hose is SyTy specific
-throttle body is from a 305/350 TPI motor, is not specific but isn’t easy to find either
-air crossover and inlet elbow are specific
-engine accessory brackets are the same
-coolant reservoir has an extra inflow for intercooler
-Remote oil cooler lines, filter block and fittings are common to all higher level 4wd 4.3 S10's

They were rebuilt, at least according to the label on the back of mine (which is the factory one)

Please keep letting me know if I missed anything or if there are discrepancies

DriveShaft:
I have a 4x4 Jimmy and the 4x4 shaft fit until the 4472 AWD was stuck in and the 4x4 case removed. Then the propshaft and driveshaft no longer fit. the driveshaft needed to be shortened.

I have two different S10 driveshafts but couldnt finish my drivetrain on the Tyclone till I took the driveshaft out of the wrecked Typhoon and it fit right in.

Re: SyTy parts compatility

plus the hash marks are different on the 1st gen sunbird cluster...the tabs on the outside of the 2nd gen sunbird are different than the syty. the cluster BEZEL is unique to the syty.

Re: SyTy parts compatility

FWIW, I've found a turbo sunbird in the junk yard that had a cluster completely different from those picutred above (still had the boost gauge, so it was OEM). So don't just buy a turbo sunbird cluster without first seeing a pic...

Re: SyTy parts compatility

The devil is in the details....off the top of my head:

Front pinion yoke on 4wd diff is different than the AWD stuff. 4wd uses the straps/bolts to retain the U joint while the AWD uses a different yoke with bolts only since there is no U joint at the pinion up front.

Rear most frame bracket for the exhaust is syclone specific. I found this out years ago when I ordered the bracket from GM for a reg S10 to fit a syclone KB exaust and it wouldnt work...ordered one for a syclone and not only did it work but it was different than the GM S10 4wd piece I ordered in the first place. Dunno if you can even still get the syclone bracket from GM now since its been a decade or so since I bought mine :dunno: .

Trans cross member is syty specific if you want one that directly bolts in and doesnt hang down like the stock 4wd round one does not to mention the bolt holes dont line up perfectly between the frame and cross member. It was a minor misalignment when I tried a 4wd piece but it would still require some work with a die grinder or big drill bit to make everything line up.

Brackets welded to the floor for the console are sytysgt stuff.

TV cable is syty specific (toss an 80E trans in there and tell the TV cable to take a flying leap).

TB is a TPI piece but the bracket for the TV cable that hangs off of it is syty specific.

Shifter cable bracket on the trans...pretty sure this is specific to sytys but not 100% sure on that.

Coolant over flow bottle...stock S10 but it has an extra fitting installed to accept IC over flow as well.

Steering wheel is syty specific.

Seats are actually 3rd gen F body seats with fancy covers for sytys (93 tys arent though since theyre the barkalounger big butt seats ;) ).

Door panels are syty specific.

Thats all I can think of that Ive noticed that hasnt been mentioned already and feel free to tell me Im wrong since I am just comparing what my truck has to other GM vehicles Ive owned or GM vehicles that friends have owned.
