Blew my new motor

Man this really sucks. I was driving home last night with the wife. We had just spent almost an hour getting the e-fans to work. I had to pull over because the temps got to 210* which just doesn't happen. Come to find out, one of the connectors was shorted somehow. So anyway, we're on our way home and I get on it to feel the power and heard a bang. Pulled over and got towed home. Once home, I couldn't get the crank to move at all. Temps were normal, tune wasn't knocking and AFR's were a little rich. I am suspicious of the mini stroker crank. I had my doubts about using it in the first place and would bet money it snapped. I plan to pull the motor on Saturday and see what I am up against. I was at 500 miles:(

Re: Blew my new motor

I know your pain! I had my new motor out 3 times in the first 1000 miles with various issues. Definitely sucks ass!

Re: Blew my new motor

Why do so many rebuilt motors have such issues? I have not heard of any stockers blowing up lately but rather the built ones. Sorry to hear about that man. I know I would be real bumed out. Best of luck.

Re: Blew my new motor

If it's a offest ground crank and not one forged that way it's weaker than stock just from removing material.

Damn.. Real sorry to hear that... :(

Good luck with the rebuild again.. Grrrrr.

Oh that sucks Mike.. seems like there has been a rash of motors losing it just when guys are cruising and not in the boost.... check that oil pump out carefully.

Re: Blew my new motor

I pulled the motor alone this evening. Took me 2 hours. I called all my friends here in town to see if anyone one wanted to help out. I have done this several times in many different cars and I can say that I don't really NEED help it sometimes is just nice to have someone there to BS with. Anyway, no one wanted to come by. It kills me how everyone always a ride in it but no one ever wants to help fix it. With the exceptions of a few Denver guys, I'm done giving rides. What really blows is that I have it out on the picker but my wife started pissing and moaning that she wanted to watch a movie. Hopefully I'll have time in the morning to put it on the stand and pop the pan off. I'm pretty sure I wont know anything til tomorrow afternoon though. I pulled the valve covers looking for a dropped valve but they all look just fine. Drained the oil and there was a shard on the magnetic drain plug but oil look ok. I have a feeling I will ned 80% of a bottom end from this.

Re: Blew my new motor

Thanks for all the replies btw, last night I was really mopey for a while and I told my wife I felt like a family member just died:lol: When my buddy came to pick us up to go get my truck I just stayed there and had him take my wife to get the truck. I knew I needed a few minutes to gather myself before someone said something stupid and sent me in to a rage. My wife was pissed and I knew that if I gave her a few minutes, she would say something that ended up getting her feelings hurt BAD!! Then as I sat there in the dark waiting, I pondered selling the bucket but I know how that would make me feel and I know how fixing it would make me feel so I am ready to dig in once again. Just hope this doesn't cost me more than 2k.

Re: Blew my new motor

Mike,

Sad to hear this. I don't think I had 200 miles on mine when I blew the head gasket. (My own damn fault for attempting to run 11's on 91 octane.) After everything I did over winter it took me forever to fix because I was so mad at myself. Just got it running this week though and it feels goo to have it back.

Wish I wuz closer I would come help ya.

Re: Blew my new motor

Maybe the wifey was just feeling your pain. One time My wife started spouting off things about the TY that I thought she didnt know. You may have needed that break. I got away from mine yesterday. Sorry about the mishap. Its our love / hate for the trucks that keep them rollin.

Re: Blew my new motor

There is still good news in this.

I have done worse. Motor survived 1500 miles, rebuilt it 250 miles later driving 800 on a trailer to florida I blew it up again.

Chances are you will find what broke and learn something in the process and make sure you don't have that issue again.

Education costs money, some come with a degree others just an empty pocket.
