My motor still ran with a broken crank. It didn't sound very good though.

no cam driveIf it breaks in the right place, would you have a really badly tuned V4?

Mini stroker crank? Go into more details about this one.. How much was it and who makes it..
where did u get it?
I took apart a 427 Chevrolet 35 years ago that was running, and would start, but had a hell of a strange knocking noise. The crank came out of the block in two pieces. It was broken in a way the two parts were interlocked, so it would still start and run. But the noise couldn't be ignored.
No, the distributor is driven off the rear of the camshaft, not the crank. In mike's case, it quit running because shit broke and jammed it up. But the front 5 were still in sync with valves and distributor.

I can assure I watch as many gauges as possible. I had the truck tuned for about 10 psi and I was running about 8. AFR's looked great, temps looked normal and oil pressure was good. I tore the block down and here is what I found.

I was afraid to run this crank as it was and I didn't listen to myself. Lesson learned I guess. So now I have a snapped crank and two wasted pistons. These pistons were custom and I am sure this is going to be expensive no matter what route I go. Everything else looks great. Whats is odd is that there really isn't a whole lot of waste in the motor. I guess since it broke and didn' keep turning that would explain that.
This crank was from Ry's old motor. I am not sure where it originally came from but he used for a long time and beat the hell out of it. Maybe he can chime in and give more details. I got from his old motor that I bought, the complete bottom end.
Mike, just curious, did you Plastigage the mains when you put the motor together? Back when I was building Cat engines, we'd plastigage both the saddle half, and the cap half... any line-bore problem would be immediately evident with this method. If all clearances were fine, I would sure think that it would point to a defect in the crank with the minimal boost you exposed it to.
Remember that 9psi is a bit more due to your higher compression pistons..... sorry to hear about your crank. hopefully most is salvageableYes I did plastigauge. Top and bottom. Everything checked out. That 9 psi or so I was running felt a hell of a lot faster/stronger than the 20 I was running on the 20g with meth. I didn't even get til the alky reservoir on this build yet. I am hoping to get this thing back together with in about a month. It really depends on how fast I can sell these engine parts I have that came from a 4.3 that was built for an airplane. I wont be bale to even take pics of it until Tuesday. If I can sell all that fairly fast, it will finance at least a new crank, the rest I can realistically buy right now. I just need to get everything here in front of me first to see what I really have to work with.

Man it should really fly then!!!
Hope you find a good crank this time..!
