For those interested, I made a couple of current / amperage measurements for the ramcharger fans. With both fans on LOW, current is approx 20-22amps. With both fans on HIGH, current is approx 26-28amps. These measurements were made with the fans in the open, NOT mounted in the truck, so these are probably best case numbers.

I did a black magic from e-bay. Relatively straight forward, but you have to watch your wire gauge sizes. All the relays are built in to the unit. (eg convenient)
This is wired hot all the time so it cycles when the truck is off too. Never had a dead battery etc.
The only wierd thing was that the AC compressor would cycle when the fan would cycle so I put a Zenor diode on that wire and it went away.
The truck seemed to run smoother and the gas mileage got a tad better. A good mod to do.

has anybody checked the black magic to see the amp draw? i had one on my fullsize but i kept blowing the fan blades off when i submerged the truck and the replacements were just too expensive. the "internal" thermostat sucked BAD. i ended up putting the thing on a switch and just left it on... except for when i went through the river.
it did cool really well though.

I just got done installing a 94 Lincoln 3.8 2 speed fan. It took some modification but I am still running the factory top radiator shroud and just had to trim a little bit off. It appears to be stock. I'll try to take some pics of it tomorrow. I just got done with it and did some test running tonight. I have it on the high setting and it dropped the temp 10 degrees within a minute. Only spent $20 for the fan at a junk yard plus $6 for the mount kit at Checker. Can't help with what model you want but don't buy the flexalite vsc.. there's been tons of horror stories of them just not holding together syty or not

Found this thread while doing some research about fans, particularly the Ramcharger Dual Fans. I ran this set up on my GN for several years without a problem at all. With these fans installed my car never saw over 165° in the winter and never over 185° in the summer with the air on and in traffic ( ran 165° - 170° in the summer without the air on )
The car had a huge FMIC, ac condenser and radiator and with these fans on you could put your hand in front of the grille about 10 inches away and feel the air being drawn through. Very nice set up.
But this is the reason I posted. Here is a very nice controller from Casper's that may interest some folks

The fan draws allot since it flows a ton of cfm... my way around this which ive posted about before was to run the fan at a lower speed via a progressive fan controller. Has worked great and with the volvo i've never needed to run the fan 100 percent so my controller ramps the power of the volvo up as needed. Went with the spal pwm controller and has worked great for me so far

So ALL I would nee is that controller and some wire to hook it up and Im done? No sensors, or probes, or relays, or anything else? Just buy the controller and I can drive my truck again?

cheapest i've seen was on ebay.. think mine was $69 shipped but that was a while ago
the controller comes with the wiring.. you can tap into your stock coolent sensor but I choose not to since I converted to a turbo that wasn't water cooled .. so i had the port on the lower manifold plugged.. I unplugged it and installed a spal progressive coolent sensor to work with the controller. You don't need that if you don't mind tapping into your stock green coolent sensor wire.
besides that I have a 40amp fuse instead of the 35 they supplied.
also.. I set the high setting of the controller (where it turns the fan at 100%) to come on at something high like 200. The truck never gets that high and hardly reaches the tstat setting now which is 180 so I figure if the low setting keeps the truck at 182 or below all day long then that means I don't really need the fan at full speed and can save my fuse, wiring and help stop the dimming of my lights at idle
has worked great so far

That was my exact thinking in purchasing this controller and so far that's how it's been working out for me so yes I would have to agree...
but please keep in mind what I said before when you set your temp settings on the controller.. I set my high setting higher then what my trucks ever reached in hot weather (200) just so I don't run the risk of hitting the high setting much ever since I don't need it.
Also.. another note, The controller was made to take up to a 35amp fuse which I did try but it would blow here and there.. I didn't have the temp settings setup right though so that might have been the issue but I ended up running into someone that runs the same controller in there big blocked stroked 69 camaro and he told me that the controller actually can handle a 40 fuse but don't advertise it so that's what I went with... hasn't blown yet and I eventually adjusted my temp settings like I mentioned above. Just another thing to concider if you blow the supplied fuses which if you set it correct the first time you won't.
