I just got this fan for my SY. It seems like a great choice to me. The size a little narrow (by 2"...enough for 1" mounting brackets?) but the rest should fit like a glove and it's less tan 4" deep. The CFM and Amp draw both seem real good. He mentioned 3000cfm at 18amps in an Email.
Here's the auction... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=8007460929&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT

I'll let you know how it goes and try to post pics.

Haha, cool Jon....That fan works great....really pulls the air through...It'll suck start a harley  keep in mind that I'm using a vette radiator so I haven't a clue how it'll fit our stock radiator....Let me know if you need pics of my dual relay setup and/or further details on ecm control....I have it electronically setup where the IAC kicks up the idle in anticipation of the fan starting up (kinda like when you turn on the a/c or put your truck in gear)...I used the trigger wire that used to control my stock I/C waterpump.....pretty cool as best of all, cheap (<<sarcastic remark for morgan).....

Re: Electric fan

OK, just ordered the #30067 Ramchargers dual-electric setup. Since they don't have harnesses, I'll have to figure out how to wire this thing up. Anyone know of a progressive controller that'll do the job?

Re: Electric fan

Flex-a-lite makes a nice dual fan setup.it comes in its own shroud and is some what low profile. comes with a thermostat to, i dont recomend using it cause i dont like the probe being stuff into the fins of the radiator. i perfer using a sensor liek the painless wiring or hypertech. they both make a sensor that goes into the manifold (or where ever else you can put it) and work like that way. the other sensoer has a dial on it and im not to crazy about it.... or you have put wiring it to a switch or constant.
but that my 2 cents

Someone mentioned using a special water neck with a probe for the sending unit/thermostat. Any idea where to get these?

Re: Electric fan

If you still need the harness I have one here I wont be using for some time I could sell it to you or you can call caspers they made them for ramchargers or rc sales.

Re: Electric fan

I called Caspers this morning and they have a few of the harnesses left. Will order one from them, thanks for the offer ;)

Don't use FLX-31165. It's only rated to 25 amps. At full pull the Ramchargers is at the max rating. My controller burnt out. I exchanged it for FLX-33054. Rated at 45 amps. It's $12 more but good insurance.

Tommy - Thanks for sharing that info; I will definitely go with the FLX-33054 instead

 how many amps does the ramchargers pull? (<<edit: sorry, I missread above) I was hesitant to use ramchargers after hearing about Bruce's difficulties with his truck dying when his ramchargers fans would kick on.....arent they only rated at 2350 cfm's? Makes the volvo single 3000 cfm at 18 amps sound better and better....get them while you can folks....since they were part of a recall, they wont be around forever....

What year Volvo do those come off of?

I have no idea but it must be a late model one....the controllers were the cause for the recall...most guys that sell them remove the controller before you get it...I wonder how much the volvo dealer sells that fan setup for? I paid 65 for mine...

I had emailed Ramchargers back when I bought mine and they said 25 amps with both fans on high. I would wager that when both fans kick right on high at start up the initial spike is more than 30 amps. Nice thing with the progressive controller it only starts at 60% and mine never seems to increase more than that to cool it off. Does the Volvo fan fully shroud the radiator? Shrouding goes along way.

Re: Electric fan

How does that progressive controller work with the dual-speed fans? Is it running the fans on low all the time and then switching to high when necessary? I ordered the Ramchargers fan harness from casperselectronics.com today, plus the progressive controller is another $100...this electric setup is gettin' expensive (ugh).

I still haven't gotten mine inthe mail, thinking about getting a back-up. Like Serv said, being part of a recall they may not be around too long.

Here's a pic, The fan is suposed to be 24" wide. My radiator measures 26+ between the tanks. I'll probably use that 1" on each side to fabricate some sort of full length bracket or support.

Re: Electric fan

The best external fan progressive controller that I've read about is the one that myclone suggested....the dc controller at http://www.dccontrol.com/ tons of nice features on their units ....I chose the syty ecm since we have the option and capability anyway....It's very easy to tell the ecm to startup the fan at engine startup and stay on for as long as the truck is on....you could also have it stay on for a given amount of time after the engine is shut down....what I mean by engine startup is the fan does not turn on when you turn the key to the ignition position....only when the engine fires up will the ecm will command it to turn on....that would eliminate the need to step up the iac if you just leave the electric fan on all the time....

being that two electric motors are firing up at once, I don't doubt it's over a 30 amp draw....whatever the draw is, it's enough to shut down a stock truck at idle...upgrading the alternator is a must for the electric fan users if you plan to drive at night with the a/c blasting....25 amps here, 20 there, 10 for this, 15 for that, adds up quick....I used a recipricating jigsaw to trim all the tabs you see pictured above before doing anything....then mounted it using those pull through strap things that come with new fans....it fit my radiator perfectly after a little machining of the plastic....Jon will know more about how they fit our stock radiators very soon....take pics Jon!!

It's linear. It will ramp up fan speed as temp. rises 60%-%100. I didn't use a harness. I just wired it as if it would run on high all the time; all three + fan leads together, negatives together and then to the + & - outputs of the fan controller

Re: Electric fan

so what's the out come here folks? does the ramchargers or whatever it's called now pull too many amps for a stock alt equiped truck to run one? Do you need a progressive controller? or could you just wire it up to run high all time on a daily driver?
If read each post in this thread but I think i confused myself or got further confused after each post lol

I run mine all the time and it doesn't pull too much current for my truck. I don't have any upgrades when it comes to my electrical system.

I just rigged up a relay hooked up to switched 12V and a lead to my battery. Works like a charm.

I'm in AZ......I have to run it fulltime. It keeps the truck PLENTY cool, even at 105+ degree temps outside.
