my tranny shop just called

they called to give me an update while they asemble this.

Apparently the reason it failed was: (bear with me on the terminology)

But from what they said i broke a stator out of it or something.
Said the input shaft goes thru the center of it, and the od of the piece that locks into another part. its that od of the piece that got seperated from the id of itself.....this shit is still greek to me.

But he told me that the torq drive assembly was a good thing to be doing
so this wont happen in the future.....hopefully, fingers crossed. anyway essentially whatever the torq drive group purchase replaces is what i broke!

He did say this failure was definitaley from the motors torq and not from when i had the line pop off.

wonder if this makes any sense?

well regardless the front pump is due here in the am so i should have the sy back for the ride home tomorrow nite.

One thing they did say. They are very impressed with all the parts in the setup i delivered to them. and no one has ever come to them with this kind of parts setup ever on a 700r4 tranny!

Hey, Ed, that piece they are talking about sounds like they are referring to the stator on the pump. The stator is basically two pipes, one inside another and the factory just locktights and presses them together then bolts them to the aluminum pump housing. During launches and lockups, this stator has a LOT of stress on it. The new pump that is coming has a hardened stator assembly that uses a set screw to hold the halves of those hardened pieces together preventing rotation of one from the other. That combined with the CNC lathing to make the pump run true will hopefully prevent this from happening again.

Yeah he did say stator and i think there is only one stator in the tranny so that must be it.

He also told me it was a good idea to do the chain in the transfer case.

Turns out when he opened the case the viscous clutch had no evidence of extreme heat on its outside.

However the chain was very stretched!

thanks to whoever told me to get this checked during the build....probably george!

hopefully just one more day in the beater.....what a pos that is! :D

i can beleive they all stretch having riden motorcycles, but the stretch cant be the same after 100miles as it is after 100k.

if nothin else , i dont need to worry about it, besides ....

not much of a face, but

He said the parts were the best he had ever seen for a 700r4.

he was working on the torq drive stuff when i got there.

I dont know how much progrees he had made since everyitng was still out of the case.

And i know not to hang around and WATCH!

oh, and he showed me what had failed...it was the sprag! tore the id out of the outer part.

actually they just called, tranny is done, but they still need to reassemble transfercase, yep gettin new chain.... anyway with the holiday bein tomorrrow looks like im gonna be in the beater till monday nite! bummer :(

look like anyone wondering what the outcome is gonna be will have to sit on the edge of their seat like i am till monday....

this also means i wont be at the track tuesday since i need to give some time for seals and things to get properly seated thru a few heat cycles.
